Handle liquid and dry chemical products, load and unload trucks, tankers and railcars, operate forklifts, and maintain labeling and inventory records. Variable assigned 8–12-hour shifts, including weekends.
The role
As a warehouse operator at our client company in Lancaster, you will handle liquid and dry chemical products safely and accurately. You will load and unload trucks, tankers and railcars, move goods between the warehouse and production, and help mix products as needed.
What you’ll do
- Connect and disconnect transfer hoses; inspect tanks, tankers and railcars before and after loading or unloading, open and close top hatches, and monitor loads.
- Check products and quantities against receiving and shipping documents, report discrepancies or damage, and keep accurate receiving, shipping and inventory records in a computer system.
- Take product samples and support quality checks with laboratory staff.
- Pick and stage products according to orders; move raw materials to production and finished products to the warehouse.
- Operate standing and sit-down forklifts, pallet jacks and drum pickers, and complete the daily forklift check.
- Use electronic scales and process equipment to fill cylinders, drums, containers, pails or tankers. Repackage, label, store, stack and palletize products correctly. Take extra care with food-grade and USP products.
- Store hazardous-waste drums as required; inspect inventory, report damage or deterioration, rearrange stored materials and assist with physical inventory counts.
- Keep the warehouse clean, accessible and safe, and promptly report and clean up spills.
Schedule and working conditions
You must be available for assigned 8–12-hour shifts on any day of the week. The schedule varies; overtime and weekend work may be needed. The job involves prolonged standing and walking, up to 95% of the workday, lifting and carrying bags, pails, boxes and pallets, and climbing stairs and ladders to tanks, tankers and railcars. Exposure to outdoor weather may account for 10–75% of the time and can include extreme conditions. You must be able to pass the client company’s physical and all required training, wear prescribed PPE (which may include a respirator), and attend safety meetings and training.
What you bring
- A high school diploma, GED or U.S. military experience. Applicants with at least two years of experience in chemical operations may be considered if they do not fully meet the education or military-experience requirement.
- A forklift operator certificate, or the ability to pass the exam to obtain one, and the ability to operate a forklift safely.
- The ability to read, understand and follow instructions in English and write simple correspondence; basic arithmetic across different units of measure.
- The ability to learn and operate technology-based equipment such as smartphones, tablets, computers, PLCs and operational technology systems.
- A good safety and attendance record, the ability to work cooperatively with other departments and staff, and a commitment to following workplace policies and procedures.
- Compliance with labeling and placarding requirements when loading and unloading.
- The ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check and E-Verify check, and to obtain a TWIC card if required at the location.
