A Baltimore warehouse is looking for a cargo checker. You will inspect and tally inbound, outbound and stored freight, handle paperwork, and operate forklifts for loading and unloading. Day shift, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; overtime and weekend work may be required.
The role
Our client company in Baltimore is looking for a warehouse cargo checker. You will count, identify and record cargo on receipt, dispatch and in storage. Check documents against the bill of lading (B/L), the corresponding truck and the work order; flag errors and follow additional instructions. Keep tallies for inbound and outbound freight and support the shipping and receiving clerk when needed. Identify unloaded goods using the discharge report and take part in interim and quarterly stock counts.
Load and unload trucks, containers and railcars. Operate Linde forklifts in the 6,000–10,000 lb class, stack and clean freight, and repackage or repair it as needed. Some handling and repacking is manual. You will also repair and re-strap ingot bundles weighing up to 90 lb. Freight includes timber, non-ferrous metals, steel, general cargo, ferroalloys and bagged commodities, in loose, bundled, palletized or crated forms. Refuel powered industrial trucks and complete daily maintenance reports.
Schedule and working conditions
The day shift runs from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Overtime may be required, and weekend work may be needed. The daily schedule assigns you to a warehouse location in the Baltimore area, so check your assignment before reporting. Outdoor work is required in rain, snow, cold and heat. Work is paused during lightning until it passes.
Follow operating, safety, hazard communication, and shipping and receiving procedures. Required personal protective equipment must be worn at all times. Hard hats, safety vests, gloves and goggles are supplied as needed. Wear the required work clothes or uniform, work boots and suitable rain or winter gear.
