Carry out specialist geotechnical tests in a laboratory in Delft. Prepare soil samples, operate and calibrate electromechanical equipment, and process results. 40 hours per week; gross monthly pay up to €5,348.
The role
As a geotechnical laboratory engineer, you will carry out specialist tests on a range of soil types. The tests determine geotechnical parameters such as shear strength, stiffness, strain, and consolidation and softening behaviour. The results support design decisions for flood defences, offshore structures and foundations.
Responsibilities
- Carry out advanced, non-standard tests using different measurement setups, particularly complex static, cyclic and stress-path-controlled triaxial and shear tests.
- Prepare soil samples and accurately measure the resulting stresses, strains and displacements.
- Maintain and calibrate equipment and sensors.
- Process, check and present test results.
- Work with colleagues from other facilities on varied projects. Contribute to new techniques, measurement setups and working methods, and help adapt control software when needed.
What you bring
- A technical degree at bachelor's level, for example in physics, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or measurement and control engineering.
- Good mechanical aptitude and experience with electromechanical measuring equipment.
- Curiosity and a willingness to learn, with an interest in developing methods that improve testing efficiency and quality.
- An interest in teamwork, helping coordinate laboratory work and actively sharing findings.
- Experience with Matlab/Python is an advantage; there is scope to take additional courses.
- Proficiency in Dutch. Spoken English is desirable because project communication increasingly takes place in English.
What is offered
- A one-year fixed-term contract, with the intention of offering permanent employment.
- 40 hours per week.
- Gross monthly salary up to €5,348 based on a 40-hour week; salary level depends on experience.
- A motivated team, an informal working environment, and good opportunities for training and professional development.
