The role
As a clinical chemistry and point-of-care (POC) analyst, you carry out diagnostic tests for patients. The laboratory provides round-the-clock diagnostics, handling varied sample types and a broad test range with short turnaround times. You use modern automated analysers connected to a complex track system with advanced hardware and software.
The POC unit helps bring diagnostics closer to patients. You provide training on POC testing and represent the laboratory within the clinic.
Your work may include:
- monitoring workflow from the control station and adjusting it when needed;
- taking blood samples in the clinic, with direct patient contact;
- collecting samples, registering test requests and contributing to national and international studies and trials.
You work according to strict protocols and procedures. When unexpected situations arise, you are confident speaking by phone with the clinical chemist, fellow analysts or medical specialists. Teamwork, service-mindedness and patient safety are important.

Diagnostics run 24/7. You work 24–36 hours a week on a rotating schedule, including different days and changing team compositions.
